As I’ve said before, part of the nostalgia that I’m looking forward to at Disneyland is experiencing some of the things that we don’t normally take in at Walt Disney World. Today we are talking about the Main Street Vehicles, which are something we generally skip by at the Magic Kingdom. However, I have plans to take a ride on them during our trip this year to Disneyland! I wonder why that is?
I have my theory, and I think it is something that you all probably would have guessed, but for me at least, our trip to Disneyland is going to be a lot about immersing ourselves in the history that Disneyland represents, which, let’s be honest here, is just so much more expansive than the history at Walt Disney World. After all, Disneyland is the place that Walt walked — and in many ways, built with his own hands. The tragic loss of Walt Disney in 1966 meant that, while the Walt Disney World complex would still be built, it is just a little bit different because Walt Disney never got to experience it, critique it, and make it his with that unique creative genius that he possessed.
It is because of that fact that, for me, Disneyland is as much an exploration into the mind of Walt Disney the man as it is a trip to check out some attractions that are different from the ones at Walt Disney World.
With the Main Street Vehicles in particular, when I’m riding it, I’m going to imagine myself as if I were in Marceline, Missouri, riding a horse drawn carriage down to the local cinema at the turn of the 20th century, almost as if Walt Disney himself had done that same thing.
